Silicious Earth

Category

Siliceous earth, also known as diatomaceous earth or diatomite, is a naturally occurring, soft, siliceous sedimentary rock composed of the fossilized remains of diatoms, a type of unicellular aquatic plant, and is used in various applications.

Properties:

  • High Porosity: Siliceous earth is highly porous, meaning it has many small openings or pores.
  • High Surface Area: The porous nature of siliceous earth results in a high surface area.
  • Fine Particle Size: Siliceous earth typically has a fine particle size, ranging from more than 3 mm to less than 1 μm, but typically 10 to 200 μm.
  • Good Heat Insulator: Siliceous earth is also a good heat insulator.
