Rocks and minerals from which metallic iron can be economically extracted, usually consisting of iron oxides like magnetite (Fe3O4) and hematite (Fe2O3). It is the primary source of iron for the steel industry. The major types of iron ore deposits are massive hematite, magnetite, titanomagnetite, and pisolitic ironstone.
